R.I.P. Steve...

Photobucket
It has been a rough week here at the ol' Countryfolk homestead. First Clarice was hit by a car. Now Steve the Chipmunk is gone. I am heart broken.
:> (

A feral cat has found it's way to our property. It took Steve and yesterday morning it took a lil' injured sparrow I've been trying to care for.
I am extremely frustrated as to how to keep this cat away from my little animal "sanctuary." I do not want to hurt it, just deter it. So if anyone has any suggestions, please let me know.

Many of you have followed Steve's crazy antics previously on Facebook and here on my blog.

I thought I would share some my photos with everyone again. You can click directly on the photo and it will take you to some of his silly stories.

I will miss you too, Steve. Give Clarice a hug for me.

oh I am sorry to hear about the both of them being gone..the poor feral kiity is probably hungry..other then putting out regular food for this kitty so it doesn't eat your wildlife..it will continue to hunt..cause thats what they do..our kittehs are so well fed.but they still hunt..they just don't eat their kill..yours probably is..other then trapping him there is nothing you can do..except keep your dogs outside to deter it..

...Oh Karin, I am so sorry. This is always so hard. I know this is cliche but treasure the time you had them for at least you had them for a little while.

...I agree with the above comment that if it's a feral cat you could feed it as I'm sure it's very hungry or you could set out a live trap and trap it and take it to your local shelter. That is the only thing I don't like about cats is their natural instinct to hunt. We have bells on our cats which does seem to help and we have thorn bushes at the base of our bird feeder too.

...Again, I am so sorry for your losses. Sending you (((hugs))) and warm thoughts your way dear.

...Blessings

Oh, Karin.... I'm so sorry to hear about Steve and the little injured sparrow.... You have had a very hard week with the losses of your 3little friends.
Hang in there.... I do hope you can find a way to deter the feral cat from stalking around your area....

I am so sorry for all your losses Karin. Bless your heart. May I suggest you get a animal cage that will catch the kitty without harm. If you can find a no kill shelter that would be great. It is true he/she is probably hungry. I do suggest too, that you feed her and then try to catch her/him. Just dropping her/him off somewhere else means she will still go hungry and hunt other animals. I will keep you in my prayers tonight. Hugs,Cathy

Thanks, ladies. ♥

Truthfully, I have no desire to feed the cat. I also don't want it hanging around. Besides, from what I could see, it looks very well fed. So I'm guessing someone is feeding it. Or it could be someone's pet, who knows? (I don't know a lot about cats)

Maybe if I stop feeding my little songbirds, it will eventually move on if there's nothing for it to grab.

Thanks again, ladies. ♥

So sorry to read about the lil fella. Dont know if this will work with cats but we have a couple of idiot neighbors who let their dog's poop in yards and not pick it up. so gross, anyway we use mothballs and it helps as the dogs dont like sniffing them.

Carol, I have heard about moth balls. A sweet gal gave me a suggestion with another use for plastic water bottles.
It's been a few days since I've seen the cat. So hopefully it has moved on. But only after wreaking havoc here. Sigh. Oh well...
Laura, I still can't believe it. I loved that crazy, lil' furry feller.
